Saturday, November 26th is Small Business Saturday. This nationwide initiative started by American Express promotes local vendor shopping. Why does this matter? One Mass-Live business article by Jeanne Yocum presents new research on small business practices.

According to a study that must be accessed through Civic Economics, buying locally matters because:We're Thankful For Small Business Saturday

  • Local businesses purchase goods and services from other local businesses.
  • Small businesses employ locals.
  • Every $1 million spent at local stores creates $321,000 in additional economic activity in the area.
  • If that $1 million was spent at chain stores, only 1/3 of that $321,000 would go to local economic activity.

The benefits are endless. By supporting small businesses and entrepreneurial initiatives, local economies blossom and communities bind together.

We’ll leave you with this. While you should check out Small Business Saturday this Thanksgiving, consider supporting small businesses all year long. It’s good for the economy, entrepreneurial spirits and your community.

This is why we are thankful for Small Business Saturday.
